SBAA April 2021 Newsletter

Let’s keep celebrating Women’s History Month!

Each year during the month of March, millions of people around the world honor Women’s History Month, highlighting the achievements and contributions of women to events of history in the United States and those who continue to make history today!

The South Bend Alumni Association would like to celebrate the accomplishments of two teams who have impacted our community in a positive way. Yes, it IS April, but we wanted to continue celebrating Women’s History Month and give some special attention to some special ladies!

The Washington High School Girls’ Basketball Team made a historic run to the IHSAA Girls’ Basketball State Championship this season, in the midst of tremendous odds and a global pandemic! Their grit, hard work, and determination lead them through every opponent, every minute on the clock. The team is a class act, even embarking on a current I DREAM tour to schools in the SBCSC system talking to students and inspiring the next generation of athletes to chase their dreams!

On March 17th the SBAA Co-Ex Grant Committee awarded a grant to the Clay High School Girls’ Softball team to purchase new helmets. When groups are awarded Co-Ex Grants, they are required to complete a service project in the South Bend community. After Clay Softball Coach Katie Rodriguez’s son beat leukemia, she chose to prepare Easter Baskets for the children on the Pediatric Oncology floor at Memorial. In all, the team created & distributed 25 Easter Baskets! What an incredible project from a deeply personal place. And we are so proud of their work!
