The South Bend Community Hall of Fame honors individuals who have made a significant contribution to our local community and beyond. In the spirit of the SBAA mission, each member of the Hall of Fame has modeled what it means to be a civic-minded individual, dedicating their lives to service and care for others, as well as the betterment of the community as a whole. These honorees have made an indelible mark in society that is an example for all of us, especially the students who benefit from the support of the South Bend Alumni Association.

Andre Gammage

Andre Gammage

Magistrate Gammage has dedicated over 20 years to serving his community as a defense attorney and now as a magistrate with the St. Joseph Circuit Court. Beyond the courtroom, he mentors youth, leads educational initiatives, and advocates for justice and reintegration, embodying a lifelong commitment to improving South Bend.

Gary Gilot

Gary is celebrated for transformative impact in South Bend, marked by his innovative engineering solutions and mentorship of students and professionals alike. His dedication to community improvement, exemplified by initiatives like the Bowman Creek Educational Ecosystem and advancements in smart sewer technology, has significantly contributed to the city’s progress

Greg Humnicky

Greg Humnicky

A lifelong advocate of South Bend’s educational and athletic community for over four decades, Greg has championed equality in sports and inspired countless students and athletes as a teacher, coach, and Athletic Director at Clay High School. He is unwavering in his dedication to mentorship, community service, and championing SBCSC students.

Judith Overmyer

Judith Overmyer

A devoted teacher at John Adams High School for 20 years, Judith has profoundly impacted the South Bend community through her dedication to mentoring and educating countless students. Under her leadership, the John Adams Mock Trial program became one of the most successful in the country, winning nearly 15 state championships and two national titles.

Charlie Hayes & Vicki McIntire

Charlie Hayes & Vicki McIntire

Founder of Hayes Towers, a company providing facilities to the telecommunications industry, Charlie Hayes has played a pivotal role in improving local communication infrastructure. Additionally, his significant contributions to South Bend’s numerous art museums reflect his deep commitment to supporting and sharing the arts.

Vicki Lynn (Foreman) McIntire spent 20 years at the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office. She was instrumental in launching the Victim Assistance Program, the Domestic Violence Program, and the Metro Homicide Police Unit. Vicki also served as a Juvenile Probation Officer at the Juvenile Justice Center, where she founded Central Academy, an accredited alternative high school, helping provide educational opportunities for at-risk youth. In 2015, she led the campaign to restore and return the 1906 Studebaker Electric Fountain in Leeper Park. Her contributions to the community have earned her the Distinguished Hoosier Award and the key to the city of South Bend.

Freddie has dedicated his life to promoting Latino culture, advocating for minority inclusion, and serving the South Bend community by participating in over thirty community organizations. His impressive career in business management with Thon Steel, LLC and international sales, alongside his commitment to diversity and inclusion, highlight his profound impact on South Bend.

Seabe Gavin, Sr.

Seabe Gavin Sr. is celebrated for his exceptional athletic achievements and unwavering commitment to his community, having excelled in baseball, football, and boxing, and later having the Seabe Gavin Sr. Youth Baseball/Softball field named after him. A distinguished Navy veteran, Gavin’s legacy of service and leadership continues to inspire future generation

Cynthia Murphy

Distinguished Achievement Award

Cynthia Murphy has devoted decades to empowering Latine communities across South Bend, Elkhart, and Goshen. As an Academic Coach at IUSB, she has been instrumental in supporting Latine students through recruitment, retention, and navigating academic challenges. Cynthia’s impact at IUSB and her tireless efforts in fostering inclusivity and success among Latine students highlight her exceptional community service.

The Selection/Search Committees will consider the following categories of accomplishments, but may be amended as needed.

  • Arts
  • Athletics
  • Business and Industry
  • Education
  • Public/Community/Government Service
  • Science & Technology

HALL OF FAME CANDIDATE ELIGIBILITY

  • Candidates have resided or worked in the South Bend Community for ten (10) or more years.
  • Candidates have made significant contributions to the South Bend local community through service.
  • Candidates have notable achievements at the local, state, national or international level.
  • Candidates continue to stay engaged and connected with the local community.

  Nomination Process


For 2025 Selection, Nominations are due by March 1, 2025.

If a nomination is not selected, it will be returned to the selection committee for review.  Unsuccessful complete nominations (with all materials submitted) will remain in the queue, and thus be eligible for consideration, for three total years. After three years, an updated nomination must be re-submitted to be eligible.

*Only nominees chosen to receive an award will be contacted with the decision.

Ideal Baldoni Distinguished Public Service Award

The Ideal Baldoni Distinguished Public Service Award was created in memory of Ideal Baldoni, a political icon in our community who had the respect of virtually all people in public service and the many people who knew him. This award is given to elected and appointed public officials who have distinguished themselves by demonstrating exemplary personal integrity and selflessness for the betterment of our community. The award focuses attention on the positive achievements of the many people who serve in public offices in our community and in this country.

Contribution to Education Corporate Award

The corporate award for contributions to Education is awarded to an organization that in the pursuit of excellence achieves its goals and objectives at an uncommonly high level and thereby distinguishes its members and our community.

Distinguished Community Service Award

The Distinguished Community Service Award is awarded to an individual or a group of people who, in the pursuit of helping their fellow citizens perform services at an uncommonly high level and thereby distinguish themselves and their community.

Distinguished Achievement Award

The Distinguished Achievement Award is presented to an individual or group of individuals who, in the pursuit of excellence in their field of work and/or interests, achieve their objective at an uncommonly high level and thereby distinguish themselves and their community.
