SBAA July 2021 Newsletter

“The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.” – Coretta Scott King

Nonprofit organizations routinely hold events to bring members of the community together to share their mission and vision. These organizations survive on donor contributions and support. And these are more than just events or fundraisers. These are opportunities to build relationships, inspire others to get involved, and pass the baton to the next generation of leaders who will embrace the heart and soul of the organization to continue to move its mission forward.

The South Bend Alumni Association relies on our community partners, alumni members, school leadership, business leaders, neighbors, and friends to link arms with us throughout the year. In the Spring and the Fall each year, the SBAA hosts events to raise funds to support the Co-Ex Grant and Scholarship Programs for the students of the South Bend Community School Corporation.

28th Annual Golf Outing

On Thursday, May 20th, the South Bend Alumni Association held its 28th Annual Superintendent’s Golf Tournament at Elbel Golf Course in partnership with Teachers Credit Union. There were 29 teams, 31 hole sponsors, and innumerable volunteers from TCU and the SBAA Board, making it a tremendous event on the course. Through raffle ticket sales, hole sponsorships, donations, and registration fees, the SBAA raised nearly $24,000 this year!

Winning the 28th Annual tournament was the Holladay Properties team made up of Jim Seitz, Matt Seitz, Gavin Ferlic, and Ryan Linstromberg with a low score of 56.

Former South Bend Community Schools Superintendent Jim Kapsa & former SB Clay High School Athletic Director Greg Humnicky cruise the course.

Cart Sponsor for the 2021 Superintendent’s Golf Tournament was The Inn at Saint Mary’s.

Opening the tournament and welcoming the golfers to Elbel Park for the day were former SBAA Executive Director and South Bend Mayor Steve Luecke, Current SBAA Executive Director Susie Brennan, and SBCSC Superintendent Dr. Todd Cummings.

All proceeds from the tournament will go to the Co-Ex Grant and Scholarship programs, so each and every dollar raised makes a tremendous impact on the students in South Bend Schools. The SBAA is grateful for everyone who purchased a raffle ticket, a hole sponsorship, or participated on a golf team this year. We hope to see you all out on the course next year!
