November 2023 Newsletter

I’m reaching out on behalf of the South Bend Alumni Association. You may recall your own valuable experiences with co-curricular and extracurricular activities during your youth. Whether it was athletics, theatre, student government, or another activity that impacted your life, I’m sure you understand how crucial these opportunities are for students’ growth and development.

This year, the Alumni Association aims to increase support for all South Bend students through extracurriculars. We strive to break down financial barriers for all students and give them the ability to enjoy field trips, access to school apparel, and have equipment and supplies needed.

I invite you to give back to today’s South Bend Community School Corporation students by making a $25 donation to the Alumni Association’s year-end appeal.

Here is a quick look at an SBAA Mission Moment with the Riley Spring Musical:

The production rights, rehearsal materials, and rehearsal/performance tracks for the Riley High School spring production of “Once Upon a Mattress” were all secured with the help of a Co-Ex Grant. Using fleece collected during the run of the musical, cast members made tie blankets for the Sweet Dreams Ministry (St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Joseph County).

Once Upon a Mattress’ provided the opportunity for 34 students to come together, create art as a group, and form a community within school walls. Without these funds, we would not have been able to produce our spring musical.”

Become a champion for the youth of South Bend- make a year-end gift to support co-curricular and extracurricular programming in the schools you love.

The South Bend Alumni Association is now accepting nominations for the 2024 Class of the South Bend Community Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame honors individuals who have made a significant contribution to our local community and beyond. In the spirit of the SBAA mission, each member of the Hall of Fame has modeled what it means to be a civic-minded individual, dedicating their lives to service and care for others, as well as the betterment of the community as a whole. These honorees have made an indelible mark in society that is an example for all of us, especially the students who benefit from the support of the South Bend Alumni Association. Inductees are honored at our annual banquet in October, and they are honored on the Wall of Fame in the Century Center.

McKinley and Kennedy

Spotlight Performers

Over 60 students from McKinley and Kennedy schools signed up for a baton and pom clinic in the spring. Those students had the opportunity to perform in the West Side Memorial Day Parade and a variety of summer performances. The uniform jerseys they wore for those performances were purchased with a Co-Ex Grant. The twirlers collected food for the Kroc Food Pantry, and helped pack food bags and organized the Kroc Food Pantry. We’re so proud of these young twirlers!
