SBAA Board Member Spotlight!

Do you know who serves as members of the Board of Trustees for the South Bend Alumni Association? Would you like to know more about them? If your answer is yes, then buckle up! Today is the inaugural blog post to introduce you to our Board of Trustees; but more importantly, to understand WHY they serve and the investment they have made to support the students in the South Bend Community School Corporation!

The questions we will be asking the Board members are a mix of both personal and professional so you see the multifaceted personalities & experience of the leaders serving on the Board.

First up is Mr. Bill Przybysz, retired educator and Principal at John Adams HS and Marketing Vice President for Metropolitan Insurance Company.

  2.  What position do you currently hold, or have held in the past, and where did you hold the position?

Retired educator at John Adams – teacher, Ass’t Principal, Principal, and Retired as Marketing Vice President for Metropolitan Insurance Company

  1. How many years did you hold those positions?

32 years at John Adams, last 20 years as Principal. 9 years at Metropolitan Title

  1. Where did you attend high school and/or college?

S.B. Central HS – Ball State University

  1. What is your hometown?

South Bend, IN

  1. How many years have you been a member of the South Bend Alumni Association Board of Trustees?

Since it was organized [in 1985]

  1. What was the impetus behind becoming a SBAA Board of Trustees?

Supported opposition to closing School Field, and a strong interest in a solid extra-curricular program.

  1. Why are so you passionate about being a Board member for the SBAA?

The desire to see that the students in SBCSC have an opportunity to participate in a first class extra curricular program.

  1. On what committee(s) are you currently serving?

Scholarship committee, formerly chaired the monthly Lunch Club

  1. What do you love most about the South Bend Alumni Association?

The mission of the SBAA, the dedication and enthusiasm of the board members in staying firm in that mission

  1. How do you define success?

Setting a goal, focusing on that goal, accepting setbacks and correcting them, and stay true to your task of getting there.

  1. Who inspires you?

Caring, compassionate, honest, dedicated people.

  1. If you could choose anyone, living or dead, as a mentor, who would you choose?

Former H.S. teacher, Mr. Walt Kindy

  1. What’s one thing – either organization-related or not – that you learned in the last month?

There are people out there who are “paying it forward” in so many ways. I learned it first hand when I needed assistance, and how quickly caring, and concerned they were with my well being. 

  1. What’s something about you (a fun fact!) not many people know about you?

As a Varsity Baseball player at Central HS I committed three errors and struck out three times in one game; not my proudest moment

  1. What’s the last book you read?

“Hard Wood Glory, A Life of John Wooden”

  1. If you could eat one meal every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?

  1. What advice would you give young people as they are making their way through school and considering their future outside school?

Become involved; participate in those activities you enjoy. Never forget your purpose for being in school, which is to absorb as much knowledge as you can, and stay focused on academics. The four years of HS will be some of the best years of your life, take it all in, the friendships developed will be for a life time.
