Beloved educator, coach, and SBAA Trustee Dave Dunlap passed away on July 11, 2020. Dave always lived by the mantra of the four pillars to set a strong foundation: FAITH, FAMILY, EDUCATION and SERVICE. No one better personified all four of these beliefs than he did. Dave was passionate about all four of these pillars, and those who knew him, know he fought fiercely for all four. Even after his retirement from teaching in 2001, Dave continued to serve the youth and schools of South Bend Community School Corporation and St. Joe County. He served on the South Bend Alumni Association Board of Trustees, The Scholarship Foundation of St. Joe County, as well as the South Bend Education Foundation. Although all were important to him, the one that drew him the most was the SBAA for its mission to support both extra-curricular and co-curricular programs. Dave was a firm believer that students who were involved both inside and outside of the classroom were more successful in school, and his service on our Co-Ex Grant Committee was one of the many ways he demonstrated that belief.
The SBAA is so grateful for Dave’s many years of service, but we will miss his friendship and kind presence the most. His passion for our schools and for our students was unmatched, and he served as an inspiration to anyone who knew him. He will be truly missed.
