SBAA Co-Ex Grants in Action

Riley High School students gather July 22 at Howard Park in South Bend during United Way’s picnic event.

Did you know SBAA gives out Co-Ex grants to support co-curricular and extracurricular activities at South Bend Community Schools?

In return, students who benefit from these grants provide service in our community. On July 22, we saw the incredible work of Riley High School boys and girls soccer teams and cross country team out at United Way’s picnic event at Howard Park. Awesome job students and coaches!

When some soccer players were gathering at the end, they were asked about their time serving.

“I thought it was relaxing and everyone had fun,” Luciano, a Riley junior said. “There was a lot of interesting things and we got to do with our friends.” Luciano’s friend Brian a Senior mentioned, “It’s a blessing to be part of the community.”

SBAA looks forward to the next service project that our SBCSC schools do as part of a Co-Ex grant recipient.

DONATE to help support our local students.

Local high school students perform a scene from “The Drowsy Chaperone,” this year’s Summerfly musical.

This summer, SBAA supported Summerfly through Co-Ex grants. In June, students from Clay and Adams high schools joined students from St. Joseph, Penn and Brandywine high schools to perform the musical “The Drowsy Chaperone,” the annual Summerfly production.

Students perform a scene from “The Drowsy Chaperone,” this year’s Summerfly musical, during a recent Rotary Club luncheon.

This past school year, students volunteered approximately 10,000 hours of community service. The community service projects helped a variety of areas in our community.

Create an Account to Stay Up-to-Date on Your High School Classmates & Reunions

“The South Bend Alumni Association high school websites will be seven years old in July 2022. The seven public schools have over 101,800 classmate names and senior photos posted, with more being added each day.

The goal is to provide means for all classmates to connect individually with private or public postings as well as collectively by announcing reunions and related activities including posting upcoming classmate birthdays as well as obituaries.

An important aspect of classmate profiles is the recording of high school memories and later life in college, travels, military service, employment, marriage and children etc. These stories are very important to your fellow classmates, your family and future generations. Give some thought to review your story and update it. Your grandchildren will be very happy to read them.

You can leave comments in the “In Memory” section for a classmate, however, they will not be reading it. You may want to send the message now while you are both “above ground”. It’s like sending a smile electronically. They may be waiting for a hug or your good news.

We depend on yearbooks donated to scan and store in our reference libraries. All South Bend Schools for all years. Also, hundreds of our school newspapers have been scanned and searchable. Please donate any that you may find.”
