Funding

The South Bend Alumni Association has established several programs to help promote excellence for students by supporting co-curricular and extra-curricular activities at South Bend schools. Student participation in these activities provides an incentive to stay in school and helps to improve classroom performance.

Co-Ex Grants

Grants are available to support fine arts and performing arts activities, athletic teams, academic competitions and other school sponsored co-curricular and extracurricular activities that are not supported by tax dollars. The South Bend Alumni Association believes that Co-Ex Grants create a contract for excellence by supporting co-curricular and extra-curricular activities at South Bend schools.

Student participation in these activities provides an incentive to stay in school and helps to improve classroom performance.

AEP Foundation Field Trip Fund

The AEP Foundation has generously funded an exciting new effort – the Elementary Field Trip Fund – that will make imagination-expanding learning experiences more equitable and accessible to students.

Beginning in 2024, the SBAA will provide grants for field trips that foster curiosity, problem-solving skills and passion for discovery in impressionable young minds. By reducing financial barriers to visits enriching academic foundations early on, we aim to spark a lifelong wonder and love of learning across our community’s youth.

SBAA Sponsorships

The South Bend Alumni Association is proud to partner with local organizations to sponsor special events that align with our mission of building up extra-curricular and co-curricular activities, broadening the educational reach of schools, and promoting service to the community for students in South Bend. Past partners include the South Bend Civic Theater, South Bend Symphony Orchestra, South Bend Empowerment Zone, and Morris Performing Arts Center.

Apparel Funding

We have launched Apparel Funding to meet extracurricular programs’ unfunded gear needs. Schools’ chess, robotics, debate, and other student clubs and teams can now apply for financial assistance to buy customized t-shirts, sweatshirts and more.

This new initiative will empower participants by funding apparel that facilitates team cohesion and pride.

Provided Bike Supplies for Harrison Elementary Bike Garage

Harrison Elementary School received dozens of scratch and dent bicycles through the Police Athletic League. The SBAA provided funds for parts to fix those bikes, and a new club was born! Harrison students learned how to assemble and fix bikes, follow directions, and use tools as they rehabbed bikes for their community.
